Competences: The Department of Forest Botany and Tree Physiology has ample experience in performance of field measurements and analyses mycorrhiza. Georg-August Universität Göttingen has contributed to the Laccaria genome annotation project. The group has close collaborations with the the Nordwestdeutsche Forstliche Versuchsanstalt, who make recommendations for poplar growers in Germany.

 Role:

Andrea Polle will lead WP4. Her group will be involved in determination of below mycorrhizal diversity, assessment of ecosystems services of poplar plantation, and ecological sustainability.

Staff members’ profile:

Prof. Andrea Polle is professor at the University of Goettingen and leads the department of Forest Botany and Tree Physiology including a pilot plant for wood products. She has more than 20 years experience in biochemistry and physiology including tree-mycorrhizal interactions. She is member of the Academy of Sciences at Goettingen, handling editor of New Phytologist and Oecologia and elected member of the review of Board of the German Science foundation. She investigates tree physiology and tree-symbiotic interaction under changing environmental conditions. She has coordinated the EU funded project ESTABLISH and leads the research unit Poplar Research Group Germany (funded by the German Science Foundation), contributes to the national research unit “Links of below and above ground diversity in mixed deciduous forests”, and contributed as PI to several previous EU projects, e.g. ADAPTABILITY, POPFACE, EUROFACE, etc.

Dr. A. Olbrich is an engineer with 5 years of research experience in anatomical analysis (FTIR microscopy, electron microscopy, and histochemistry).
